Travel Documents

  1. In the case of passport loss or expiration, the Embassy of the State of Kuwait will deal with each case as the following:
    1. Kuwaiti Citizens in the US (Tourists).

      The Embassy will issue an emergency travel document.

      The requirements for both cases are:

      • Police report stating that the passport has been lost. (Only for passport loss)
      • Copy of the passport if available or copy of Kuwaiti Civil ID.
      • Three (3) Photos.
      • Written request from the citizen to the Embassy.
      • Pre-paid, self-addressed envelope (registered mail).
      • $50.00 cash or money order made payable to Embassy of the State of Kuwait.
        NO PERSONAL CHECKS ARE ACCEPTED.
      • Note: If the passport has expired more than three months before applying for the emergency travel document, the Embassy has to receive an approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait before issuing the document.
      • Application for Issuance or Renewal of Travel Document
    2. Kuwaiti citizens living in the US (students and patients).

      The Embassy will:

      Issue an emergency travel document. The requirements are listed above.

      OR

      Reissue a new passport in case of an expired or lost passport. The requirements are:

      • Verification letter from the Cultural Office (for students), or the Health Office (for patients).
      • Police report stating that the passport has been lost (Only for lost passport).
      • The original passport.
      • Four (4) Photos.
      • Copy of the passport if available or copy of the civil ID.
      • Written request for the issuance of a new travel document/passport including the contact information of a family member in Kuwait.
      • Pre-paid, self-addressed envelope (registered mail).
      • Note: If the passport has expired more than three months before applying for the emergency travel document, the Embassy has to receive an approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait before issuing the document.
  2. In the case of issuing a emergency travel document for a new born baby:

    The requirements are:

    • Original Birth Certificate. It must be authenticated by the US State Department in Washington, DC. If the applicant wishes for the Embassy to process the authentication on their behalf, this requires an extra charge of $138.00.
    • Written request from the KU Father to issue the travel document.
    • Copy of the Kuwaiti Marriage Certificate of the parents.
    • Copy of the father's passport.
    • Copy of the mother's passport.
    • Three (3) Photos of the new born.
    • $75.00 cash or money order made payable to Embassy of the State of Kuwait.
      NO PERSONAL CHECKS ARE ACCEPTED.
      ($25 for legalization - $50 for ETD)
    • Pre-paid, self-addressed envelope (registered mail).
    • Application for Issuance of Travel Document for a Newborn Baby
    • Note: If the newborn baby is younger than 3 months old, the Embassy has to receive an approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait before issuing the emergency travel document.

Please note the following:

  • All payments should be paid to the official name: Embassy of the State of Kuwait.
  • Please note that the processing time for each case is as follows:
    • Issuing an emergency travel document: four working days.
    • Reissuing the lost or expired passport: six to eight weeks.
